The Hockey Geelong Junior Skills Clinic on Saturday February 4 saw 49 players in attendance, ranging in age from 10 to 15, with players drawn from the Geelong Hockey Association’s junior clubs. A 3 hour clinic was promised with coaching provided by players and coaches from the Hockey Geelong Sharks senior teams, and those in attendance were keen to learn some new skills.
With 4 different stations set up around the ground, there was always a new activity to take part in and a new skill to learn. The enthusiasm shown by both players and coaches was excellent, and it promises a great season ahead for all the participants.
In addition to field skills, the senior men’s and women’s keepers provided some great one-on-one coaching for the 3 goalkeepers who joined the clinic, which was a fantastic bonus for the keepers.
Thanks to the Hockey Geelong Sharks Junior committee, who organised and co-ordinated the clinic. The clinic provided an introduction and information for the participants about the Hockey Geelong Sharks Junior Representative Program, and their participation in the Hockey Victoria metropolitan competitions. The success of the clinic, the first clinic with this format, is sure to see the event repeated in future.
