Hockey Victoria Country Teams
The 2022 Hockey Australia Country Hockey Championships for senior teams will be held in Albany, WA from August 6 to 13.
Hockey Victoria will enter one male and one female team in the competition. These teams are usually selected at the Victorian Country Championships, which will be played on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend from June 11 to 13. The 2022 competitions will be held in Geelong (women) and Footscray (men).
Over the years, the Victorian Country teams have included many Geelong players, and we hope to continue this trend. Selection in the Victorian Country teams may provide a further pathway to selection in an Australian Country team. Past Australian teams have toured to Fiji for example.
Country Hockey Development
With the aim of further developing the standard of play in country Victoria and with the support of Hockey Victoria, country players (male and female) aged 14+ are invited to participate in the 2022 program of Vic Country Development days around our country regions. These free clinics enable local players to interact and experience the Vic Country Representative system alongside current players and coaches. Note that these sessions are intended to develop further skills and are not suitable for beginners.
This presents a huge opportunity for aspiring and ambitious players to learn and develop their hockey. Participants will be coached by current Vic Country coaches and learn and play alongside the best country players in Victoria.
The Geelong program will be held on:
- Sunday March 6
- Stead Park, John St, Corio
- Arrive at 8.45 am to register and be ready to begin the session at 9.15 am, concluding at approximately 2 pm.
The program for the day includes:
- Coaching clinics
- Lunch
- Games – with a male and female game with the Vic Country players present.
